Paul Foley

Director

Paul commenced with Cooke & Foley in 1989 after successful completion of his Bachelor of Business in 1988 at the University of Ballarat. Paul became a Certified Practising Accountant in 1994, holds a Public Practice Certificate and is a Registered Tax Agent.

Paul has extensive experience in Hotel, Motel, Restaurant & Café and Farming sectors providing decisive tax and business advice to a wide range of clients across regional Victoria and welcomes all new clients.

Paul has a great passion for sport including a long term involvement in basketball and golf. He also describes himself as a keen but unsuccessful golfer.

Paul believes in community involvement and has a keen interest in sports administration. He is a past Treasurer of the Ballarat Miners Basketball Club and joined the Board of the Ballarat Golf Club in 1989. He currently holds the position of Finance Director at the club and had a key involvement in the recent re-development of the Club, which won the 2011 Clubs Victoria Award for Best Club Redevelopment.

Paul is married to Danielle with 3 children and enjoys spending time with his family, supporting all their sporting interests and is still celebrating Richmond’s 2017 AFL Flag after a very long drought. Paul can be contacted on 5331 2600 or Paul@cooke-foley.com.au.

Kym Cassells

Director

Kym joined Cooke & Foley in 2000 while still completing her Bachelor of Commence degree at the University of Ballarat before starting full time with the firm in 2001.  In her time at Cooke & Foley, Kym has progressed through the firm to become a Director in 2012.  During this time she has also completed her CPA studies as well as gaining considerable experience in all facets of public practice accounting.

She has extensive experience in taxation accounting and business services from a diverse range of clients. She also has experience in a wide range of software packages, including Xero, MYOB & Banklink and likes to spend time with her clients teaching them how to efficiently use these packages to reduce compliance costs.  

Kym holds a Public Practising Certificate and has over 15 years experience in superannuation and specialises in self managed super funds. She prides herself on liaising with her clients in a timely manner and assisting them to set up processes so they can better manage their day to day operations. Kym is also a certified Xero and Xero Payroll Advisor.

Away from the Office, Kym has had a large involvement in basketball being involved in the Ballarat Lady Miners (now known as the Ballarat Rush) for 16 years before taking a break in 2011. She continues to have an active involvement in the sport and is currently the Treasurer of the Ballarat Basketball Association.  She enjoys watching most sports in her spare time as well as spending time with family and friends. Nicole Crocker

Director

Nicole joined Cooke & Foley in 1999 while undertaking her Bachelor of Accounting degree from University of South Australia through the university’s online study services.  She is a qualified CPA, ASIC approved SMSF Auditor, holds a Public Practising Certificate and has been working in the public practice accounting field for over 15 years. She was appointed a Director of Cooke & Foley in 2017.

Nicole is known around the office as our friendly auditor. She looks after the audits of our clients SMSFs and trust accounts. When she doesn’t have her green pen in her hand, she is responsible for the completion of client financial statements, GST matters and tax returns. Nicole has extensive experience in managing the tax affairs for a variety of clients, including a number of property developers, hotels, farmers, tradespersons and various other small businesses.  She is also experienced in a range of accounting software including Xero, Reckon and MYOB and enjoys providing more detailed analytical information to her clients in regards to their businesses.

She is a passionate Collingwood supporter and is also the rev head amongst the team so don’t expect to find her in the office when the V8s are racing at Bathurst!  Nicole is married to Jason and they have a son Kody.  She enjoys an attempt at a hit of golf and is the current treasurer of the Beaufort Golf Club.  She spends her time away from the office relaxing with her family and friends. Dennis Foley

Consultant

Dennis was a Director at Cooke & Foley from 1980 to 2012 and took over from his father Kevin Foley, the firm's founder who commenced the practice more than 60 years ago. In 2012 Dennis decided to spend some more time with his family and travel, whilst remaining a consultant to the firm on more than a part time basis.

Dennis is a Fellow of CPA Australia and practices mainly in the area of tax and accounting and has also previously been a Registered Company Liquidator and Registered Trustee in Bankruptcy. As a result, he has vast experience in helping individuals and corporate clients solve their business problems. He also has a keen interest in business valuations and succession planning and continues to assist clients with these important steps.

Dennis has been involved in community and sporting organisations for many years and was the inaugural President of the Ballarat Miners Basketball Club for 20 years. He is presently the Chair of the Ballarat Basketball Foundation and is also Treasurer of the Ballarat & District Trotting Club, a position he has held for thirty years. Dennis has also previously been a member of the Board at St. Patrick’s College Ballarat, for a nine year period, serving two years as Board Chair. He is also currently Chair of the St. Patrick’s College Foundation.

Dennis is a Life Member of the Ballarat Basketball Club, the Ballarat Basketball Association, the Celtic Tigers Basketball Club and the Ballarat & District Trotting Club.

Dennis was the recipient of the Mackenzie Award from the Ballarat Sportsmen’s Club in 1999 for the Sports Administrator of the Year and has also been awarded an Australian Sports Medal.

Peter Davis

Senior Accountant

Peter previously worked for one of the big four banks before transitioning to the public accounting sector. He joined Cooke & Foley in September 2000 and has over 27 years of experience in the accounting industry.

Peter’s qualifications include an Advanced Diploma of Business (Accounting) from the University of Ballarat, a Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting (University of New England), Member of the Institute of Financial Accountants, Member of the Institute of Public Accountants and holds a Public Practice Certificate.  Peter is also a certified XERO advisor.

Peter has worked with a number of different clients from varying industries and also has an extensive understanding of various accounting packages including XERO, MYOB, Banklink and Reckon.

Chris Squire

Senior Accountant 

Chris is a born and bred Ballarat local. Upon completion of his schooling at St Patrick’s College, Ballarat he took up a part time position at Cooke & Foley while also studying at the University of Ballarat. In 2007 he graduated with a degree in Applied Economics & Finance.

He commenced full time at Cooke & Foley in 2008 and has also completed his CPA studies. Over his time at Cooke & Foley, Chris has been working with a diverse range of clients and has a keen interest in small to medium size businesses.

Outside of work he is a keen sports lover, having played football for Ballarat Football Club in his earlier years and has also represented Ballarat in basketball. Chris is a life long (and no-longer suffering) Richmond supporter and also likes heading to the races and generally relaxing and socialising with friends. Jason Lowson

Senior Accountant 

Jason commenced with Cooke & Foley in 2015. After completing his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Ballarat in 2007, Jason gained extensive experience working with both a national and local Ballarat accounting firm. Previously Jason spent some 16 years working within the banking and finance industry.

Along with general practice accounting for Businesses and Individuals, Jason specialises in assisting Self Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) trustees with technical advice and solutions including ongoing compliance requirements, contribution and pension strategies, asset acquisition strategies and legislative requirements. Jason is a member and accredited SMSF Specialist Advisor™ with the SMSF Association.

Originally from Western Australia, Jason moved to Ballarat in 2003.

Away from the office Jason enjoys spending time with his family and friends along with football – and yes Jason is a West Coast Eagles supporter. Having retired from playing football several years ago, Jason has moved to umpiring as a way of keeping fit and contributing to the community.

Candice Scott

Accountant

Candice has been employed at Cooke & Foley since 2003 and completed her CPA studies in May 2011.

Candice is Xero Certified and is also proficient in the use of MYOB, Quickbooks and Reckon.

Candice has a broad range of skills in the tax field, from the completion of monthly Banklink reports to Individual, Trust, Company and Self Managed Superannuation Fund Tax Returns.  Candice also completes bookkeeping for some of our clients.

Away from the office, Candice is a mum of two who enjoys spending time with her family and friends and has been actively involved in Celtic Tigers Basketball Club for many years.

Julian Atwood

Accountant

Julian commenced with Cooke & Foley in 2011 whilst he completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Ballarat. Julian is currenlty completing his CPA studies.

During his time at Cooke & Foley, he has developed his skills in taxation, FBT, SMSF and compliance accounting.

Away from the Office, Julian enjoys spending time with family & friends and staying active in the gym.

Matthew Dwyer

Accountant

Matthew commenced with Cooke & Foley in August 2014, working part time whilst completing his Bachelor of Business degree at RMIT University.

Matthew is currently gaining experience in a number of industries and enjoys the challenge that this presents.

Away from the office, he enjoys spending time with his friends and playing both football and cricket at Newlyn.

Faye Sun

Accountant 

Faye commenced with Cooke & Foley in June 2015 after her successful completion of a Master of Professional Accounting degree at Federation University. She is currently undertaking the CPA Program to broaden her knowledge and skills in accounting.

Outside of the office, Faye enjoys catching up with friends, painting and practicing Chinese calligraphy.

Zac White

Accountant 

Zac commenced work with Cooke & Foley in February 2017 whilst completing the last semester of his Bachelor commerce degree majoring in accounting at Federation University and has recently became a full time employee.

Outside the office Zac is part of the Gordon Football Club and likes to travel.

Susan Zakynthinos

Administration

Sue commenced with Cooke & Foley in 1984 as a junior and progressively worked her way to front office receptionist where she was responsible for greeting clients and answering incoming phone calls. She left in 1995 to start a family and returned in 1999 on a part-time basis. She is now responsible for the administration of the business and works in a supporting role to other clerical staff.

Jessica Dabraio

Administration

Jess joined the team in 2006 and currently works part time while raising her young family. She assists with the preparation of client BAS’s and income tax returns as well maintaining client software files and new client integration.

In her spare time, Jess loves a good laugh with friends, camping, as well as keeping herself fit.

Teagan Weightman

Administration

Teagan joined the team in 2011 and manages the firms client administration. She is not only responsible for the efficient running of the practice but she manages all our ASIC lodgements, client correspondence and processes the payroll for a number of clients. Currently she is studying a Bachelor of Accounting.
